As stewards of God’s youngest disciples, it’s our divine assignment to guide our children not just through the valleys and peaks of this earthly journey, but also in the sacred communion of prayer. Here are seven inspired ways to embark on this blessed adventure, weaving the Word of God into the very fabric of their beings.
#### 1. **Lead by Heartfelt Example**
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6). Just as Jesus led by example, let your children see the power and sincerity in your prayers. Your genuine relationship with God, expressed in daily conversations, sets a luminous path for them to follow.
#### 2. ** The ABC’s of Prayer**: Teach them the simple prayer structure – Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication (ACTS). This will help them understand the flow of prayer, just as they learn their ABC’s.
#### 3. **Nurture a Spirit of Gratitude**
“In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Encourage your child to start and end their day with a prayer of thanks. This daily practice opens their eyes to the multitude of blessings around them, fostering a heart of gratitude that honors God.
#### 4. **Craft Prayer Jars**
“But without faith, it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6). Together, create a prayer jar filled with personal prayers, worries, and dreams. This tangible act of faith reminds them that no concern is too small for God’s ears and that He is always ready to listen.
#### 5. **Encourage Them to Write Letters to God**
“Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.” (Psalm 55:22).
Provide them with paper and pens to write their prayers as letters to God. This intimate form of prayer helps them articulate their thoughts, fears, and desires, laying them at the feet of the Almighty.
#### 6. **Enrich Them with Bible Stories**: Narrate stories from the Bible, highlighting the power of prayer. The story of Daniel’s unwavering faith in the den of lions, or the heartfelt prayer of Hannah, can inspire them to embrace prayer in their lives.
#### 7. **Make Prayer a Creative Adventure**
“Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.” (Isaiah 54:16). Encourage them to express their prayers through drawing, painting, or crafting. Each creation becomes a unique prayer, a heartfelt offering to God, showcasing their individuality and devotion.
Remember, our children are the budding flowers in the garden of God. Let’s water them with prayer and nurture them with faith for our labor in the Lord is not in vain. Cherish this journey for as we guide our children towards prayer, we too will find ourselves drawn closer to God.
Stay blessed, stay vibrant, and remember, our God is an awesome God!
